Last year I didn't have a lot of tomatoes, due to the new owners of the local greenhouse mislabeling the plants and they turned out to be Roma tomatoes, a small cooking type of tomato and the yield was no good. This year I got five plants, Early Girl, Beef Steak and Golden Boy, spring was delayed as it was cold into June but soon it was a perfect year for them. We haven't had any frost yet and I'm still getting a lot from the garden. The only thing now is.. I'm sick of tomatoes! I have eaten them sliced, in salads, put them on pizza, made all kinds of pasta sauce, made dozens of my favorite tomato/onion/spinach sandwiches, gave them to friends, and almost everything I can think of!
I also have a lot of green peppers, I personally find they only really taste good in salads or stir fry, so I only bought three plants this year. Two plants produced a lot of nice big peppers and one plant didn't have one single pepper. Gardening can be strange like that.
Fortunately the tomato plants seemed to have stopped producing more tomatoes, the plants are ripening the green fruit that is already on and that's fine with me. This way, I also don't have to bring them all in. It's supposed to rain all week and be warm (no frost), which is good because I need more time to buy extra Tupperware to freeze spaghetti sauce in. Tomato anyone?

Nice! Meanwhile, I've killed six more houseplants. Treasure your plants while you still have them. One day they're there, and the next they're gone, except for frickin' zucchini.
The one thing I never tire of I sliced tomatoes, with sliced fresh mozzarella, basil and then drizzle with Balsamic vinaigrette.
Maybe you can do something with a tomato sauce with flies for texture?
@Maddie- Mmmmm, yum! That tomato mozzarella thing ain't bad either!
Wash your mouth out with soap, young man. How can you get sick of fresh homegrown tomatoes? What would Dr Spo say if he caught you saying such things??
Did you preserve any of your tomato sauce for the long difficult season that we shall not mention?
Have you ever tried slow-roasting them in some oil? Dehydrating them? Making tomato jam? I have even frozen whole tomatoes with reasonable results.
Ohhh they’re so pretty! And I bet they’re yummy!
It’s rare to find organic tomatoes like these and if you do, they charge an arm and a leg. Did you make picked tomatoes? Fried green tomatoes?
Lurkie has got all the best ideas! Let’s have a cookout!
You could have us all over for a big tomato fight, like they do in that town in Italy every year.
I guess I should learn to read your entries before commenting. Yes, you froze some spaghetti sauce, but did you can some for your pantry, like a good country housewife?
And tomato pie is good too!!!!
TAKE THEM INTO WORK AND SHARE THE BOUNTY WITH YOUR CO-WORKERS. OR DONATE THEM TO A LOCAL FOOD BANK.
MY SPOUSE'S OFFICE HAS A SMALL TABLE WHERE UNWANTED ITEMS ARE LEFT FOR ANYONE TO GRAB. LAST WEEK, HE BROUGHT HOME A 1/2 BAG OF FRESH SPINACH AND A PINT OF BLUEBERRIES.
ps - sorry for the caps, but it's 2:30a and I don't feel like retyping.
There are few things in life I love more than a fresh tomato from the garden.
And peppers? Stuffed peppers, man! Chile Relleno, man! Salsa verde, man!
Okay, I'm done!
PS I like Debra's idea, and AM's too.
Make them into sauce and Freeze it. Just think, you won't have to buy sauce this winter.
I usually freeze mine in 1 quart bags. And don't forget, tomatoes are a great source of Vitamin C.
I agree with Anne Marie. I've picked up a tomato or two at my client's office. It's a joy to those of us who didn't grow tomatoes in the garden.
YES ANNE MARIE'S ADVICE IS SPOT ON.
DD, I've been warned about zucchini so I never grow it, well that and also I can't stand it! I heard rumors that it's actually an alien vegetable from outer space or a genetically modified lab freak.
Maddie cutie, that sounds absolutely delicious, is that on a slice of toast or just as is?
Deedles, I'm thinking the same thing! Scary huh? ;)
Lurker, I think Dr Spo would probably say something like, "nonsense, such talk is blether" then I would have to secretly google the meaning of "blether" to understand him. I'm also bragging a little on purpose towards you Lurky since you utterly failed as a tomato grower this year. Your following comment cut me deep as I realized you didn't bother to actually read my post, as you often don't because you think I have nothing important to say. I mean I usually don't but you could at least pretend as a reader that I do.
Sixpence, why yes they are very very yummy! Ok we can have a cookout but Lurky is on probation!
Debra, after all my efforts that went into my garden... this has to be the worst thing you've said since you wished fall would arrive!!! Lurker please move over a little as Debra needs a few minutes on my "timeout" bench as well!
Lurker, [folding arms and tapping foot] mmm hmm, yeah you're busted, not reading my post Mr!
I'm going to try and make salsa.
Maddie, I never heard of tomato pie, I didn't know such a thing existed.
Anne Marie, I DO GIVE PEOPLE AT WORK MY EXTRA PRODUCE, ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LADDER WHO CAN USE THE EXTRA HELP WITH COSTS OF LIVING. THE SNOBBY PEOPLE AT THE TOP CAN GO .... THEMSELVES!
Bob, well heck.. not only am I going to bring you here to kill flies.. I'm going to get you to cook for me... only after all the flies are dead... and you washed your hands of course. XD
Dave, yup I freeze and freeze and freeze. Man am I ever sick of freezing veggies now lol!!!
Richard, your tomato is in the mail as we speak! Lol
Lurker, I THOUGHT SO TOO! LOL
I love to eat tomatoes, too. When I drink a cup of tomato juice, I feel as if I became a Popeye.
Hello there! I ((LOVE)) tomato juice! I find it hard after the last of my tomatoes is gone, the ones in the stores just don't compare.
Why would I read your posts? I am just here for the naked selfies.
That reminds me Lurky, thanks for trusting me with your nude photos at the beach and yes I was really impressed and I totally see why people thought you had three legs.
AS IS! YUMMY!!!
Okey dokey! :)
There can never be too many tomatoes! Point final!
Will, trade you for potatoes and sea food! Lol
I am mad-jealous and would give up to half my kingdom for any of your beatiful toms!
