Happy Saint Patrick's day!
It's my turn to be offended, if I hear one more story about Irish drunks, someone is going to get a potato peeler right up their arrrr, you get the picture. The intelligent not for profit stations will run stories regarding the history of Ireland but the rest will just pull out the same old stereotypes, shouting drunk people, drinking green beer while wearing cheap plastic leprechaun hats. Yesterday one radio news station played what was supposed to be Irish music just before each commercial break; however each one of the songs the station played was about getting drunk. That was offensive and insulting. There are plenty of songs they could have picked instead of just all drinking songs. Yes there are a lot of Irish people who do drink but there are many more Irish people who will not be in the bars tonight. Anyway Happy St Patrick's day! Now did anyone see where I put my potato peeler?

I used my potato peeler tonight to make homemade french fries in honor of the Irish!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I remember working with a physician from Dublin. She was bewildered and a bit appalled at what Americans thought and did about St. Patrick's day. She went on to say some of the rubbish is being done in Dublin now as tourists expect it; they are disappointed to find the quiet saintly way the day is actually honored at home.
I am trying to think of a reason to celebrate a bloody Briton who came back to Ireland and as revenge for being captured by Irish pirates and sold into slavery subjugated its people to a centuries of a religion based on guilt, destroyed their culture, and drove the wee folk underground.
Well I will call you Mike54 for Paddy's day then. I used to bring gasps of horror when I was little, by informing members of my family that I hated potatoes. Now I love them so I got my shamrock card back.
Dr Spo, yes the real Irish that we knew thought of it as a holy day and not a big drunk.
Will, well we used to kill virgins so I would have been in danger for a long time lol. There are a lot of people that are trying to use the day to celebrate the Irish heritage and not help some beer company's bottom line.
Maaaan. Amateur Night in a college town is quite the event. Students were plastered by 6:30pm this evening. Even I thought that was a bit early.
My tradition every year is Shamrock Shakes and watching Finian's Rainbow. This year my good friend wanted to go out for her birthday and I was worried about going. I was relaxed and not in the mood for a drunken crowd, but turns out if wasn't so bad and no drunks. It was her birthday and didn't not want to go. One beer and a shot of whiskey and I was home by11:30, then watched more movies.
I hate those plastic hats too!!!!!
Mr Lurker, uhh I feel for you, the other thing I noticed is the people who claim to be Irish and just want a big drunk, usually don't take part in anything else regarding the culture.
Maddie, how do you make a shamrock shake? That sounds good lol. You were a good boy yesterday, I'm proud of you. From now on, every St Patrick's day you will be known as Mistress O'Maddie!
