The "Buzz" Today.

Everyone was buzzing at work after lunch. I asked what was wrong, apparently a guy who works in the offices upstairs, went away for a couple of weeks and came back this week a woman. I have an idea who it might be, there was a young person that I felt was in some sort of transition. I don't know anyone from that group so anything beyond that is just workplace gossip. I really liked one of the responses from an older technician when one woman started asking him if he had any extra information. He said that he has enough to worry about regarding his work load than to worry about something that is none of his business. Everyone went back to work thankfully, they got the message.

Well, that older technician deserves a prize. That’s exactly the kind of answer something like that deserves: let’s keep our noses in our business. I understand it’s difficult, especially if there’s some big change going on, when everybody wonders what happened and if their work will be affected. But someone going through issues like becoming FTM or MTF has enough on their plate to have us gossiping about them. And unless we are FTM or MTF we would have nothing to add. Good for that technician!

YAYZ, someone had the correct response!

Your co-worker had the best, and right, response! Bravo!
And to the person transitioning, good on the for choosing to be themselves.

That was a great response. I can't imagine the courage it must have taken for the guy to return to the work as a woman. I wish her well.

I do not blame your coworkers for being curious.

I also think there are many in the trans community who would take issue with your characterization that your coworker left as a guy and came back as a woman.

And that was the exact right message to send!

Old Lurker, I may be wrong, but I think Steven was just talking about the exterior of this person.

Sixpence, to be fair, I work with many immigrants, the people born and raised in Canada didn't blink and I bet many will try to put the person at ease.

Anne Marie, yup and I think the only important thing is weather they are competent at their job or not.

Bob, you can tell by the look of the person that they are in a good place now.

Richard, I thought telling people that I'm gay was hard, this is a whole other level. Hopefully one day it will be absolutely nothing.

Old Lurker, yes all are from immigrant communities where something like this is never discussed. However the tech is also from a third world country so high marks for him.

Plus see Deedles response.

Debra, I couldn't agree more.
