Learning to eat again.

Another "spring cleaning" post from the draft bin. Something I started last week but I felt it was boring and had no direction. I added in some sentences so I'm just going to post instead of deleting it.

How are your eating habits these days? Everyone is worried about gaining weight from sitting inside and eating more. Have you changed in how you look at food now? I keep reading online and seeing news clips about how everyone is trying to bake and make fancy dishes. Even to the point where stores are running out of flour, eggs and butter. I think I gained ten pounds just reading mistress Maddie's blog today with all the pictures of what he baked!

My thoughts regarding food haven't changed that much nutrition wise but availability wise I see my every nightmare nearly come true. I have always been aware that it's not as easy to keep the stores stocked as most people assume. Just a heads up, meat is about to become really expensive, not because there is a shortage of animals on the farm... but because the packing plants require the workers to be crowded in together and the virus thrives on that type of environment to spread. Causing the plants to shut down, creating a shortage of meat in the stores. Also fruits and vegetables will become really expensive. Here in Canada the large farms just don't have the employees because of the virus, many are not going to have the time or money to grow produce with our short season. There will be a shortage in the fall, prices will rise.

I have also gained a whole new respect for food given the travel restrictions put on us by the provincial government. I have also gained a new outlook on freedoms as well. I think of food all the time, I'm stressed out about running out of food all the time now. I have really become creative with my meals. At first I was trying to eat really healthy but now I just make sure I eat something.

Yesterday I left eating dinner later than usual so I didn't want to eat anything too heavy. Looking in my cupboard I decided on a can of chicken noodle soup. It's too bland however so I figured I better punch it up. I put in a few spices and broccoli to add flavor, then I let it simmer. I may have added in a little onion, I don't remember but I was intending to add some. Once it had simmered for a few minutes then it was ready, yum, it tastes almost like homemade soup, it had flavor. I often do this but I find now, it really helps me in how I prepare meals.

Remember in times of crisis, homemade chocolate chip cookies are good for you!

Hahahahaha chocolate is always good. Always.
And I think people are going to have to rethink their relationship with food during and after this pandemic. Even though cheetolini mandated the plants open, they’re going to shit down because they don’t really test the employees. They’re disposable.
Making do with what we have is a good exercise in reality.

Learning to eat again, never wanted to. What am I to do? Can't help it. (paraphrasing a song)

I've gained ten pounds and the only thing I've changed is the carb thing. I'm back to compulsively eating the bad ones. Back to the old drawing board.

we are cooking at home more, so less eating out and less junk food. we are also doing 2 meals a day - early breakfast, early dinner.

Ours hasn't really changed much. The only difference is that BP ...Before Pandemic ... we had people in for dinner once or twice a week and now we don't, er, can't.
That's what i miss, especially with the good weather, sitting out on the back deck with good friends and good food.

When we lived way out in the country, if we ran out of bread we ate cracker sandwiches. We'd 'go t'da sto' when we made dump runs on Sundays to drop off our garbage as there was no garbage pickup in the country. We always overtocked on Raman and Krafts Mac and Cheese and bought shelf type milk. I've never been a gourmet. Your noodle soup variation looked good to me!

I find myself baking more, if I can get flour, just for something to do. Once it's made though, you have to eat it.....
I just think whatever gets you through, in these strange days. I'll deal with the consequences later.
Your soup looks great!

You're right about the expense, sir, everything is going to become more expensive. This is something our American administration does not understand: people can't work when they're sick. The economy is not going to resurrect itself overnight. As for eating habits? Mine have stayed pretty much the same... except for yesterday when I ate a whole boatload of pasta.

We’ll have to learn to make do with what we have. And I love how you got creative with the soup. Nothing like doctoring it up to your liking. Maybe adding in a little REAL chicken to make it heartier.

I usually only eat out on the weekends so my meal routine hasn't changed that much. I have seven grocery stores within a mile of my house so obtaining food is not an issue. I feel very fortunate.

I have started getting tired of eating. Like everything else. I have been picking at food and not making meals. I don't want to be bothered. It is hard for me to get motivated to make meals for one.

I only go to the grocery store when I absolutely have to. I am afraid food is going to get really expensive. Times are going to get tough. It doesn't help that we have a buffoon "leading" our country.

The shortages became evident early on, both with Panic Buying and also with what I knew the Virus Pandemic would exact upon the Food Chain and it's Production and Distribution Cycles. I try to stay proactive in stocking up on what I can that might end up on Ration, or already is on Ration. For a while here only the Fear Factor Foods were left on Grocer's Shelves and that was very unsettling, even if you had enough at Home to last a while. Because you weren't sure how long the Pandemic and Shortages might last and when you might just run out?! I haven't seen T.P. available for about 2 Months now, so I'm glad my European Relatives gave me a Heads Up before Panic Buying hit America too... so I got my ridiculous Mega Roll Costco size pac of Charmin a couple Weeks early and then pick up the decent quality T.P. IF it can be had anywhere, and always on Ration! I have not become a Culinary Jedi or Domestic Goddess during Pandemic, I'll leave that to those who aren't Old Hippies like myself, who could Care less about such things.
