Boxing day? Don't hit me!

Boxing day, so called because of all the religious people that go out and punch each other in order to get to the good deals first. Actually I think it's something to do with putting everything away. I know many people who are obsessed with taking down the tree and decorations today. I never understood that, all the effort to put them up, now just when you have a little time to enjoy them, you take them down. January and February really really really really really really suck in this part of the country, a little light and colour helps keep away the gloomies!

No... nooo, nope, nah, no way, non, pas, forget it, not, not happening, nooooo I am NOT going shopping today. I never tried it until a few years ago, I went and found it to be a complete waste of time. I don't even think I bought anything that day. The only men's clothes that I wanted were on sale 30% off, I waited until later in the week and got them for 50 and 70% off. It wasn't worth the stress. Plus I'm definitely not a crowds person.

Today I was invited to a boxing day party, I was told they already have everything so just bring myself. Sounds easy enough, I will bring some cookies I made, I never like showing up empty handed. It's an afternoon party, we will probably have a fire outside since the weather is nice, maybe roast marshmallows etc. Best of all though is we will sit around and chew the fat... lol. Have a good day everyone.

We keep our decorations up until Ukrainian Christmas on January 7th. Enjoy your Boxing Day party! Will you have clothes on?

Enjoy the party. I'm the same way I leave the decorations up until Jan. 3rd. It keeps the gloom away.

We decorate for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving and put it all away the weekend after New Years.

Have a good time, don't hit anyone.

If you think that is what Boxing day is about you have not been reading Travel Penguin's blog.

Yes, January and February (and most of March, and some years some of April) really are the most difficult months.

Have fun at your party. Be sure to wear your boxers.

Boxing Day is for Fox Hunting!

With Xmas being on a Wednesday, it was a non event. No different from Veterans Day. I heard on TV that January 15th is the last day stores do full purchase refunds on returns and gift cards, But, new sales begin. This would be a good way to avoid crowds and viruses.

Enjoy your party.

I leave my modest shit up til after 1/6/20.

I never like to go empty-handed somewhere either; a bottle of wine or chocolates helps.

have a good time!

Enjoy the party!! Don't box anybody, unless he wants to be taken home.

Cookies? Yum!
And I agree with you. Most people insist we shouldn’t bring anything but it’s always good to just bring something, no matter what.
Have fun!
It’s unseasonably warm here in the Midwest and I’m in a hotel room in St. Louis reading you.

XoXo

Our tradition was to leave up the decorations until after 3 kings day, January 6. We didn’t even put the kings out in the nativity scene until then. When I got my own place I decided that the kings would be on their journey from Christmas to the 6th And would move them a little loser to the crèche each day. Dorky, I know. It takes so little to entertain me.

But I’m glad you had a party to go to. Nothing like cookies and booze to lighten things up.

Debra, yes I had coworkers who belonged to different Christian religions that followed the same time line for Christmas.
YES.... I will have clothes on for an outdoor fire!!! Hahaha, no more playing with Lurker, you are picking up bad habit! Actually we all went for a short hike because it was drizzling off and on today.

Leanna, I think that's efficient, maximises the enjoyment factor!

Bob, my intention was to start December first but I just wasn't into it this year.

Lurkey, I was wearing long-johns. I'm at the age now that I am tired of all those stories. However I like that blog, now I have to check it out, that's your fault!

Jimmy, well there was a total fox at the party but he's straight and a bit too young.

Anne Marie, wine and chocolates!!! My address is... come on over lol! I often buy a few extra boxes of chocolates in case of a last minute invitation. That way I always have something in hand.

Dave, I got in so much trouble the last time I did that! Lol, just kidding.

Sixpence, it's actually warm-ish here as well. We are supposed to get above freezing this week and maybe rain. Yes I just feel better with something in hand, plus everyone else did the same lol.

HuntleyBiGuy, my mom was the same way lol, most times she put everything away the first day we went back to school so the wise men never made it. I finally convinced her to just put them up. Yes that does sound a little dorky but that just makes me like you a whole lot more! :D

Usually I keep mine up until New Years Day. After that day, I want it all gone. My mother was always that way, and I guess she handed that feeling down to me. Hope the party was good.

Michael, yes the party was good. Unfortunately everyone has so many commitments these days, some had to leave really early.
My mom used to take everything down our first day back at school, we would come home and like magic everything was back to normal. Later she would take everything down New year's day so that we could help her. New Year's day means nothing to my family, never did. Except time to put up the new calendars lol.

I am not aware one had boxing day parties. This sounds nice, especially if it means giving away things.

Why yes Dr Spo it's a very old tradition started back in... no just kidding. Well since everyone is around already and there is still usually lots of food available, what a perfect opportunity to get together.
