Canada day and room elephants.

Today is Canada day, I can't tell you how many times I've been watching the news and feel privileged to live in this country. Yes we have our flaws but they pale in comparison to most other countries.

I would like to talk about the fun things we were supposed to be doing but there is a giant elephant in the room..... again. I don't go to the city anymore because I don't like crowds. I like the smaller towns, I find them more fun. However events are being cancelled left right and center because of the weather... again. This time it's an extreme heat "event" like never seen before. The temperature will soar to 36 Celsius or 97 Fahrenheit, now I know that may not sound so bad to people in the warmer climates but it will come with a suffocating humidity, the results will cause it to be more like 47 Celsius or 116 Fahrenheit. Absolutely unheard of for this part of the country. The humidity at that level doesn't allow the body of people or animals to cool down from sweating because the air doesn't absorb our moisture anymore. Already at six in the morning I can barely breath outside.

Many Canada day events have been affected by weather in the past. I get so tired of people saying, "this is normal" no it isn't, maybe for a jungle somewhere but not Ottawa Canada. We do actually get high temperatures in summer and many humid days but not like this! Last week it went down to almost freezing again, we had a lite frost but lucky for us, no plants were damaged, that also never happened before this late in June, look over here, pay no attention to that climate change behind the curtain.

I'm looking for real estate in Canada. I want to move north. I don't like it here anymore and I want to go live where the landscape is beautiful and men are friendly and handsome. Nova Scotia? Vancouver? Oh, Canada...in a few years you'll be a warm as South Florida, and I may be lucky enough to find me a mountie who likes to bring me coffee in bed every morning.

I feel your pain, Steven. Reality checks suck! Unfortunately those who need reality checks the most can't understand them.

Last week I was telling a firiend, actually the sister of a friend, that I don't feel like celebrating the Fourth this year. She sent me a preachy response about how wonderful our nation is. It included the words that at least we have clean running water at the tap, at least we have our livers. Then yesterday the water stopped, either the well ran dry or the pump died. I made myself a drink and let her know what I thought of her sermon. No water still but too early to work on my liver!

Yes, here is Pennsylvania, our summers are hot and humid, like those temperatures you mention. I have never minded them, I have no idea why. I haven't even used my air yet. Yesterday was 97, but felt like 101. Today 98. Hey, as long as I can live in my square cuts and at the beach or pool, or go to the mountains camping, I'm cool.

But if your not used to this hot climate change it sucks. And I surmise will only get worst. We will all be going naked soon.

@Mike...I feel the same way. But I remember if I feel patriotic it's for my country...not my government. Screw them. But for some reason doesn't have the same feeling this year.

And Walter.....Did someone say Nova Scotia? Vancouver? IM IN!!!! Let's go blow this pop stand. I have spent two summer in Canada and loved it.

I'm sure the handsome Steven could be our host and show us around.!!!!!

Happy Canada Day! We had that heat wave here in the West about 10 days ago. But luckily, humidity is low in Alberta -- it's a dry heat, just like in the winter, it's a dry cold. So it's a little easier to endure.

Maddie, I agree. Your position on patriotism is my usual mode of celebrating. This year is different, looking at my fellow countrymen has me worried. On the other hand, the Trumpers next door have been very kind to us. They ran a long hose from their house to ours so we'd have water. Tell me to stop whining.

No AC in Philly yet? We turned ours on yesterday for the first time this year. I hate AC. Sitting here in a sweatshirt.

Happy Canada Day!

Mike - I'm guessing your friend's sister hasn't heard of the water crisis in Flint caused by the government.

RJ, funny, my friend and his family are from Detroit. Their problem is romanticizing the past, which as a historian I can't manage, combined with blind faith in Jesus. To them, what the government and politicians are doing now is of no consequence or worry because we're so fortunate to live in the glory of our past and will go on to live in the glory of Jesus. I keep telling them that today's politics is tomorrow's history.

The pump is fixed. Bob has taken a gift to the neighbors.

@Mistress Maddie: I'm packing my car and picking you up along the way. It'll be fun to have Handsome Steven bring us coffee in bed every day.

@ Walter! I will have you know I travel light. With it being so hot, I am taking my square cuts and underwear, gin ice and limes and not much else. I'll buy the rest once we're up there!!!!

I hope Steven is ready?
