Congratulations, you're a stain.

This is our month, a time for fun, joy, celebrating and affirming ourselves as part of society. Parades, festivals, dances, parties, colourful displays what could be more exciting. Unfortunately there always has to be the negative people inserting themselves into our world. They have to try and make their views seem relevant. Like wearing a brand-new, crisp, white dress-shirt, they are the spaghetti stain down the front that almost ruins the evening.

I was reading yesterday how there is supposed to be a "straight pride parade" in Boston. Right away that sends a signal as to the type of person who wants to hold a parade like that. If someone started a "white people" parade or a "men only parade" we would know instantly that people of colour or women would not feel welcomed to these parades.

Reading further however just made me really irritated and not with the people trying to do this but with the media and social media. Like being at a party with that spaghetti sauce on your shirt, there is nothing more annoying than the guy that keeps pointing out the stain. "Yes Einstein, I already know about the stain, the last seven times you pointed it out were unnecessary"!

The story is basically a couple of jerks that  hold bigoted views and are trying to have their views noticed, it should be "end of story" at that point. Why give them any credibility, they are not a well formed group, or anything like that but they may be soon after all the free publicity. People, especially those considered liberal, need to calm down and stop being so quick to jump towards the bait. These are just desperate men trying to revive a dying way of thinking. Congratulations you're a stain on society.

Being a gay man, on this day, the 75th anniversary of D-day, the day when things started to turn around for the allied countries, we have to really stop and think. The sacrifice for us is larger than most of us grasp. Imagine the LGBTQ community under a nazi controlled world, the experiments, the deaths, the suffering would be unimaginable. Imagine guys like the Boston group being in control, making laws and guiding "their" version of society, that sends a chill through a person's core.

While I am not PROUD to be gay, because it's just part of me, like blue eyes and being tall, I am PROUD to be an openly gay man living life openly and honestly with the man I love.
Straight Pride? Let me know when you're harasses bullied denied employment or housing murdered tortured discriminated against denied the right to marry and maybe then we can have a talk about pride.

Bob said exactly what I was thinking. Well said, Steve and Bob.

Your last line is exactly why stories such as these should NOT simply be ignored or left to pass without comment or condemnation. Silence is acquiescence and constitutes encouragement for others to adopt these attitudes as well. We should always speak up and educate about why ideas like this are ignorant and hateful.

Bob, I couldn't say it better, thank you!

Deedles, you probably hit the target with those comments!

Leanna, thank you.

Debra, yes I see your point but I found the stories misleading, it at first sounds like some organization has started a movement when in actual fact it's a few people that know how to push buttons, now they have a platform around the world. It should be, HEADLINE! Nutty kooks trying unsuccessfully to start anti-gay pride parade in Boston. Don't give their message any power.

Anne Marie, I'm going to clone you and create my own army! :)

This question of whether straight people should get their own celebration/parade/etc comes up frequently. I agree that the straights should get their own parade. There is a lot of straight sexual diversity that gets hushed up all too often.

Some people feel miserable because they have affairs, when they would cause a lot less damage by being open about their sexual needs. Some people have strange coparenting relationships. Some are into weird bedroom practices involving whipped cream and banana toast. Some of them want to use you. Some of them want to get used by you. As gays we do not want to admit this, but there are many different ways to be straight, and a lot of straight people would do well to get out of their straitjackets and accept that not everybody needs to live the same way.

We are starting to see glimmers of straight pride in the poly and BDSM communities, but our poor repressed straight brethren are still oppressed.

That does not diminish the fact that these two straights are looking for publicity. But they should be careful what they wish for.

How many countries have outlawed heterosexuality? The media will run with any story to get ratings and viewership.

Anne Marie, well my goal in life is to rule the world and maybe surprising to most, I want to be an evil dictator! That being said, I think we would make a great team, you can be my general over all the other Anne Maries. ;)

Steven, it doesn't surprise me a bit that you want to be an evil dictator. You've got issues boy! I mean really, an army of cloned Anne Maries armed with knitting needles, yarn and colorfully foul language? I shudder at the thought!

Deedles, and you my sweetie pie will make sandwiches for my enemies! I will rule with an iron fist!
