Still Garbage.

It has been revealed this week that the gay community in Toronto has been right all along. That their friends and community members who have been going missing were prey of a serial killer. Despite members trying to raise the alarm, the police kept assuring them it was all in their dramatic gay heads. I mean after all, they were talking about gay men and we all know how emotionally scatter brained we can be. It is very common apparently for us to leave behind family, friends, pets and work so that we can just run off to have sex somewhere for months without telling anyone. They are saying up to five people have been murdered and maybe more. I may have misunderstood the reports last night but from what I got out of the news story, was that the police were investigating a suspect for serial killings, yet didn't think they needed to alert the gay community. It is 2018 and in spite of the many advances the LGBTQ community has been making, it is really hurtful when you realize that law enforcement still see us as less important than the straight community. Homeless people, LGBTQ people, Native people, drug addicts and prostitutes, all garbage to be shoved to the side and only picked through when they have time for us.

This is terrible! I still can't understand how something like this can take place. It is a reminder that we still need to be on guard and find ways to protect ourselves. I hope they catch the killer soon and bring him to justice.

sad news indeed.
May this ill wind blow some good regardless.

Walter, they have someone in custody, someone that the others apparently met online. Spooky.

Maddie, yes and I am really disappointed by this, I thought those attitudes were left back in the seventies.

Dr Spo, hopefully this will make a few people take notice and do things differently next time!

This is sad to read. It shows that we still have a long way to go when it comes to people's perceptions of minority groups.

Michael 54, it makes a person feel like dirt, like you need to walk in and explain to them that most of us are good people.

HI, I am not gay, however as far as the police are concerned surely this would be regarded as a hate crime towards the gay community. Discrimination, etc. Most of the police I see out and about are very young and I'm afraid a few are not the brightest. ( sorry to be blunt).keep complaining and make them take action if anything like this happens again.

Thanks for the post anonymous, no it was worse than a hate crime, it was one of our own, a predator among the flock. He was the typical "he was so nice guy", the poor men probably never saw it coming until too late. I think the police are probably realizing that they screwed up here, hopefully they will learn from this. I'm fortunately seeing a lot of people that are not from the community, agreeing that if a group of middle class white women started to go missing, there would have been an outcry. As of now he is being investigated for two murders but they keep saying they believe there is more.
