Dance?

The question of the day is easy, do you like to dance? Yes or no, do you like to shake a little booty, wiggle a little jiggle, twerk a little tushie? Weather you are shy and only do it in small groups or expressive and jump around at a mega party.  I used to love dancing, one of the things I was excited about when I first started to know gay men, was the idea of having guys I could go out dancing with. Gay friends who would dance, unlike my straight friends who wouldn't and couldn't dance to save their lives... boy was I wrong! Lucky me, I became friends with every gay man that hates dancing, they nervously wanted to hug the walls at every party or dance club. If I did manage to get one up, they moved like a robot who's joints have rusted, like most white guys older than thirty.

To be completely honest, my high school in the city had a positive dance culture among the guys, it was great, I never knew such a thing existed, guys just didn't seem to dance anywhere else in Canada. My buddies would actually peel shy little me off the wall and pull me out onto the floor, fortunately I have the gay dance genes and I would have a blast! Sometimes it was all the guys together, the jocks, the preps, the casual guys in one large group, very homoerotic and I wasn't about to complain!

Unfortunately when I was dating Dan, he hated dancing and to be honest.. that was a good thing, he used to draw attention to himself on the dance floor and not in a good way if you catch my meaning. I remember one fall, four of us went to Montreal, one of the guys was from England and actually liked to have fun, we went to a dance club and I finally had someone to shake it up with. I remember the awesome feeling of looking out over a large dance floor with a sea of gay men dancing. It gave me a sense of belonging.

It's my opinion that, whether you dance or not says something about your personality, at least with regards to men, gay or straight. I don't mean that in a negative or positive way, I just notice patterns in people's behaviors. I have a feeling I can already guess who does and doesn't like to dance in the blogosphere but I'm curious. Now back to my question, do you like to dance?

YASSSSSSSSSS GURL! unfortunately, both my spouses were/are not dancers. I have often wished for a gay male friend with whom I could dance again. these days, though, I would have to watch my arthritic hips/knees, lest they scream in protest.

I love music and I enjoy dancing. Unfortunately I only have rhythm when I'm in the privacy of my own home. Unlike Anne Marie, my arthritic everything doesn't scream in protest. It whimpers and then dies. I usta could tap dance in public, and I liked square dancing. There's steps, ya know. Granny twerking (again, at home) leads to locked hips and Balder Half thinking lascivious thoughts while I'm stuck like a bitch in heat. Did I answer the question? We should've made you guess who dances and who doesn't. Oh, one more thought. One of the nice things about being female, we can get away with dancing with each other in public without anyone batting an eye. Men don't seem to have that freedom. Too bad, that.

Oh ...I LOVE DANCING and am pretty good at it. Unfortunatly with as many clubs closing because of us gays being accepted, and the trend of the big huge club coming to end and being replaced with swank lounges, it hard to find places. One reason I am going to enjoy this upcoming vacation. Both P town and Fire Island will have huge tea dances to dance at and still have clubs. And of course with doing drag in the past I learned a lot of dance then too. Although, I will never get use to dancing in a jockstrap at one certain party.

Love it! I dance every time I go to a gay club. Even when I go to straight ones. But I R3ALKY like to dance with a man.
That’s why I’d love to go to Ptown or Fire island. Especially with Maddie! 😄
Wanna come, Steven?

XoXo

I love dancing as a spectator. We often go to watch the dancing at the Blackpool tower ballroom. I cannot dance. Period. But I wish I could!

I dance like Ann Marie's line, "Dance like no one is watching". I let loose at least once a month in the dance clubs, and sometimes in the middle of the road!

I used to love to dance. I went dancing every Saturday night when I lived in Dallas. A couple of times I flew to New York with friends to go dancing at the legendary Saint. Sadly, I haven't been dancing in years.

Nope. No dancing for me.

Oh, c'mon Lurkster! It'll make you feel good! Not asking you to twerk or anything back breaking. Just put on a little Matt Monro, think happy thoughts, and sway. It doesn't have to be in front of people. Singing along makes it even better. Why Matt Monro, did I hear you ask? I've just discovered him and fell in love with his luscious voice. Old school. I've added him to my mellow voice collection along side Johnny Mathis and Andy Williams. Just sway, babycakes.

Dr Spo says I should abjure playing cards, loose women and social dancing.

It's ok Anne Marie, we can just go to the bar and man watch all the bodies on the dance floor!

Deedles said...

Well, Lurkster, I first had to look up the word 'abjure'. It's never come up in my crosswords before. I agree with Dr. Spo on the loose women. If you gotta have a woman, try for the tight ones :) There is nothing wrong with cards. Solitaire can be your friend. I can see abjuring from social dancing also. Crowds can be scary. There is nothing wrong with a little masturbatory cha-cha in the privacy of your home. Of course, I'm not a professional.

Deedles, I was unsure about how you would respond. Yes you are right above women dancing together. The school dances in the country meant that the girls went to dance while the boys went to drink outside. Sometimes they came in and lined up along the walls and watched the girls dancing. Oh the excitement.. not.

Maddie I knew you would shake booty! I bet you were good and have many stories. I don't know why I stopped, then one day, it seems out of reach for my generation.

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Sixpence, I felt you also would be one to twerk! Part of me wants to go with you but also I would be afraid of what you two might do to innocent wittle me! :D

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Christina, proper English ladies don't dance, with all those shaking body parts, good heavens, what would the Queen say! Lol : )

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Jimmy, I'm just not sure if you are pulling me up to dance.. or you're just pulling my leg.

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Richard, I keep forgetting that you were a party boy. Back in the day, I guarantee that many jaws hit the floor when you walked in. : )

I like to dance formal dances and country two stepping; I am no longer interested in just going out and shaking it mind! I have not done either in ages.

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Old Lurker, I do recall the post about how you danced on the floor all by yourself. No dancing for you but would you "like" to?

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Deedles, I'm going to have to Google him. A woman in Canada saved herself from a cougar attack (the animal) by playing heavy metal on her phone and frightening the creature away. I don't think Andy Williams would have that same affect. Lol

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Old Lurker, since when have you ever listened to anything anyone ever says? :p

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Deedles, it says something when Old Lurker is the sensible one commenting, just saying. :p

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Dr Spo, I'm not surprised by this revelation, I don't see you as the clubbing type.

Deedles said...

Steven, not trying to kiss anyone's tush here, but Old Lurker is usually sensible. He just has a Lurkerish way of expressing himself. He's got a sense of humor that sneaks up on a person. I like him, quirks and all. I love him for teaching me about zucchini and why neighbors pile them on me. I shall be forever grateful for that :)
I also love you, Stevie weevie, you of the green thumb and bluish purple string beans. I like the essence of everyone who comments here. I don't know people personally, so essence will have to do. I'll be camping for the next few days. Hopefully it will get me out of my own head for awhile.
This was such a nice light post, too.

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Deedles, ooow happy camping! Gonna miss you! I seem to be the only stick in the mud not doing anything this summer, gotta change that. Lurker is Lurker, he's like Oscar The Grouch on Sesame Street, everyone kind of fears him a little while at the same time you are just dying for him to pop up and say something.

Jimmy said...

Deedles, I have the essence of patchouli. lol

Old Lurker said...

Oh dear. Are we gossiping about essences now? My essence is that of skunk. Maybe of rotting sewage.

Happy camping, Deedles dear.

It occurs to me that Anne Marie does have a gay friend with whom she could go dancing, and that she could do so as soon as he gets back from vacationing.
