Speaking of female impersonators.

It's freezing out and yet there is a storm banging around outside. The wind picked up so much I was looking for my little dog Toto. Just waiting for the flying monkeys now.

Since I can't sleep I was watching things that make me laugh, you know "raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, these are a few of my favorite things". Besides drag queens, there is also a history of female impersonators, not so much now but I remember as a kid there were many who incorporated female characters into their variety shows. I came across the ultimate female impersonator, one of my favorites.

Watch a few minutes if you have the time. I'm sure most people have heard of Dame Edna. She gave me the giggles during the storm. :D

  1. Get to sleep! It is a work day tomorrow!

I am surprised you identify with Dorothy and not the Wicked Witch.

    1. Lurker, you bumped your head again, it's Saturday.. I think.

Talk about the frog calling the grass green, you've been in a foul mood ever since a house landed on your sister!

  2. Now I am wondering how Dame Edna isn't drag? Were the Kids in the Hall drag? I do not think I understand the difference.

Also: where did Deedles go? I miss her.

    1. Lurker, there is a difference so you have to look it up. No Kids in the Hall was not drag.

I noticed my Deedly-poo missing as well, usually means she is resting and will return when she feels better.

  3. HELLO POSSUMS! I love barry humphries! I remember when I had to tell a co-worker dame edna was a guy; he didn't believe me. he looks better as a woman than I do!

@OL - deedles may be off camping, or she may be in her "down" phase; she will return.

and I want to see what maddie says about the impersonator vs. drag question.

    1. Anne Marie, yes lol, many people don't realize it's a man, just shows how good he is.
Deedles usually lets us know when she goes camping so she is probably having some down time.. and we are right here waiting for her return. :)

  6. I have seen that clip beore and it's one of the funniest for Dame Edna. I have always loved his improvisation of creating stories and family stories, I get like that when I did drag. People would think it's hilarious.

Reminds me, I still haven't located Miss Moorecock since I left her in the shop in Ptown.

    1. I'm impressed with the way he thinks so fast on his feet (high heels) and yes just makes up stories on the fly.

You better check out what happened, if you took Margo Rita to Ptown then you would probably find her in a bar but if you take someone called Moorecock, well...

  7. And at Anne Marie, well to me drag is strictly entertaining, like lip synching, dancing, or their chosen talent, while a drag impersonator embraces a whole character with backstory and all, while still doing a little soft shoe. Lady Bunny does both so well and sit on the line. She has SELDOM ever...been seen out of drag or character.

  8. LOVE Dame Edna! I would crack up when she would talk about her "juices".

  9. Jimmy, yes and the way the whole conversation just flows like if he was really a woman talking about these situations makes it all the more believable.
