The little darlings.

I hope some parents finally get a wake-up call. This week it was announced that many school buses have been cancelled... permanently, parents were told they would have to find their own way of getting their children to school. The reason? A huge shortage of bus drivers, they just don't have the people to drive the buses. Who can blame the drivers, children have been taught to reject authority, they don't listen and the drivers are not allowed to discipline the kids in any way. Yet they are expected to still maintain an orderly bus run and drive safely. Any problems and the news is showing up at the poor driver's house. Hard to drive anything with a load of untrained monkeys behind you.

I know any of my friends who used to drive a bus, have moved on to something else. They can tell you unbelievable stories about rotten kids and the clueless parents that support the little darlings at every turn. Nobody wants that job anymore and this dire situation kind of proves it. Maybe if the little sweeties have to walk a few miles to school, they will learn to behave and maybe once the parents are inconvenienced every morning for the rest of the school year, they will also learn a lesson, you may think your little darlings are cute... we don't agree.

  1. Do you recall the case of the bus driver in Cumberland who was vilified in the press, on call-in shows et al when he had given all the kids name tags and on young lad was "Trouble" - because when he got on board the driver would always greet him with "Here comes trouble!" - something my Uncle use to say to me all the time. The kid thought it was hilarious and loved it. Mom however got her ass out of joint and complained not to the authorities but to the press. The driver got death threats, the poor kid was all over tv and was confused by what was going on and the driver lost his job. He was reinstated after the story came out but quite the job after a week or two.

    1. Will, I didn't hear about that story, only the one about some kid fell asleep on the bus and was trapped in it the whole day until the evening run. I think that driver was executed.

  2. Those bus drivers are such snowflakes! If they can't put up with the precious angels they should find something else to do. Now those poor parents will have to carpool or drive their own kids every day!

    1. OL, you fell and hit your head again... didn't you? I actually heard that most drivers are not the snowflake generation, many are retired people but they like to go south this time of year edit adds to the problem.

  5. Ugh.
I can't with bratty kids and their awful parents. There's nothing more horrible than a busload of tweens being absolute nightmares. I can't imagine driving them day in and day out for a whole school year.
Entitled parents raise entitled kids who think they deserve the world just by being.

    XOXO

  8. Leanna: why not both?

In reconsidering this topic I think I disagree with the premise. Any time I have been in the company of parents they have spent 80% of their time in disciplining their children. I am sure that there exist some parents who think their kids are angels but I think that number is vanishingly small.

    1. OL, disagree all you want, people are not quitting because they love the job, plus this is my blog, so I'm right, you're wrong, even if it's actually reversed.

  10. God forbid the little bastards have to walk but four feet to a bus stop. In the morning when I go to work, one bus stops at each driveway to pick up another offspring. Can't they walk a block or two to get to a bus stop??? GOD FORBID they get any excersie. And we wonder why America is one of the most obese countries.

Let's move the wedding up tootes. I need to get the hell out of this country.

  11. I rode a school bus for 12 years. The bus drivers would report kids to the nuns. Most kids behaved on the bus because the nuns terrorized the students with various forms of punishment. Things were different back then. Kids didn't know to call social services.

  12. Richard, it was a lot different back when you were young, like for instance the buses aren't pulled by teams of horses anymore! ;p
