Before and After.

Again today I was doing some gardening and cutting my HUUUGE lawn. I had to come in early this evening because of the bugs, they were really biting... ouch! Speaking of bugs, it's officially bug season when you swallow your first black fly of the year. It's not a matter of "if" you swallow one, it's "when". Two days ago I inhaled my first fly of the year, it appears that 2019 seems to be a dry bug year, unlike the fat juicy ones of 2018, causing this year's bugs to be a lot less flavorful.

Also as I write this, it sounds like hail hitting the bedroom windows; however it's not hail, it's the giant June bugs that are trying to get to the lights. These things are large compared to our other bugs and make a terrible crunching sound when you step on them. Hope nobody reads this over breakfast... lol.

Anyway, I was thinking about a post I wrote a little while back, regarding how it can feel almost like two different planets when you are in a winter that never seems to want to end, versus a beautiful summer day.

The following photo I took a week ago, it was after I cut the lawn, ahhh nice green grass. Plus it is still bright out at nine in the evening and the days are still going to get longer.
Compare this photo of a beautiful sunny day that makes a person cheerful inside. To the next one I had taken a month before the picture above.

Same spot, different world... or at least it feels like that. It's hard to believe when you are surrounded by ice and snow that a better time is coming, just hold on. Also winter overstayed its welcome this year, usually by the end of April the fields are clear of snow. The sad thing about this part of the world is we only have three months left, yikes I better get out earlier tomorrow to get the full value of my summer days.

Speaking of gardening, my marijuana plant is doing great, hey it's legal now in Canada. No I'm just kidding, that plant is a penises, oops I meant pianist, a pee on, a peonies. Even Kitty left over that joke, I get no respect around here!

  1. Yes, your yard is HUGE! Darn!
It looks totally different. A little bit of son and a lot of green work miracles 😎
The whole bug thing though. That’s another story. Is it really that serious? I would have issues 🤣
And I love that you can have a cannabis plant! They’re the most beautiful green!

    XoXo

    1. Sixpence, so yes that's no exaggeration. We have black flies which will be around for another three weeks. They come at you in clouds. Usually during the day you are safe until evening is approaching. Or on cold or windy days. After four in the afternoon it becomes unbearable. I hate wearing the spray but you have no choice. Also people wear bee hats and that helps a bit. After that is mosquito season but they don't usually come out until the sun is setting or on rainy days. It's something we get used to working with. On the flip side we can walk anywhere and not worry about poisonous snakes, spiders or being eaten by an alligator.

    1. Anne Marie, pee on what!?!

I never bring them in because they are usually covered in ants. I know they are a pretty flower but actually they give me the creeps, they always remind me of the type of flowers at a funeral.

  5. Your entries about your mom's decline are the saddest, but these are the most frightening. Three more months and then we have to deal with W I N T E R again?!?!?!???!!!?? I haven't even recovered from the last one, and neither have several other people I know who slipped and hurt themselves on the ice. One of my former coworkers is still off work after tearing something in their knee.

I am on your cat's side in this dispute. Also it is time to get off the Internet and get some stuff done. You don't have much nice weather left, and I don't want to be reading some mopey entry about how much time you wasted tomorrow morning.

    1. John, yes I have a riding mower, otherwise it would take me all summer to cut it just once! Lol

  7. Your yard is huge! Mentioning the black flies reminded me of growing up in upstate NY. This time of year it was difficult to even be outside as they were thick as thieves. They would crawl in your ears even.

  8. Michael, even worse is they crawl into my ears while I'm using ear plugs to protect me from the noise of the mower. Also they know enough to get under my glasses and bite! Aaaaaaah! Lol

  9. Sometimes I bemoan the scorpions but then I read about bugs like yours and I feel better.

  10. Dr Spo, that's ironic because I often think the reverse of you! Lol
